  • The Art Connection Permanently Closed on April 30th, 2020

    For Immediate release

Boston, Mass. (April 3, 2020) – The Art Connection is announcing today that the organization will close its doors on April 30, 2020.  The decision was made in February after weeks of deliberation and is unrelated to the COVID19 pandemic.

The Art Connection was founded by the late community leader and philanthropist Fay Chandler, a prolific painter and sculptor in Boston. For nearly 25 years, The Art Connection has used the universal language of art to build connections between social service nonprofits, community members, and artists. During that time period, the non-profit was responsible for more than 400 permanent art installations, containing nearly 8,000 original artworks, at hundreds of community-serving agencies across Greater Boston; interactive art-making workshops; community events; and an Artist Fellowship.

“Funding priorities have changed locally and nationally over the years, leaving The Art Connection and many of its partner agencies with difficult operational decisions to make,” said Jeanne Dasaro, The Art Connection’s outgoing executive director. “Additionally, our Placement program saw slowdowns. We had more installations returned to The Art Connection from nonprofits that had closed than we had applications for new installations.  We are very proud of our work and the legacy that The Art Connection leaves behind throughout Greater Boston. And we’re so thankful for the support we’ve received from artists, non-profits, and others for more than 20 years.”
