The City of Malden is partnering with The Art Connection and the MBTA to design and paint a mural in the center of town. This project is focused on working with youth in the city who are currently developing the design for the mural.

A Community Input Event was held on October 15, 2009 to invite the greater community to help us brainstorm themes and ideas for the project. Suggested themes included those involving Malden's history, diversity, youth, and nature. Read more about this event from the Malden Observer.
Youth interested in participating in researching and designing the mural inspired by the community's input then submitted an application to join the Malden Community Mural Youth Task Force. We are proud to announce the following youth selected for our design team:

Ekaterina Taunova, Commie Ayuk, Kimberly Flores, Stephenson Kim, Christopher Coleman, Manny Martinez, Audrey Cain, Evanah Bernard, Corrine Kelly, Sherly Jules, Janet Jonathas, Christian Manning, Jeniffer Machado, and Vanesha Darla.
A second Community Input Event took place on November 23, 2009 to present the youths' design to the community and receive feedback before moving forward. Find out more with this flyer and this article from the Boston Globe.
We still need your help! Please view our mural design below and click on the image to give us your feedback and comments!

Special thanks to the Fund for the Arts, a program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, who has made these design sessions possible with a Planning Grant for The Art Connection's "Engaging Communities" Mural Project. This project is facilitated by artists Tova Speter and Anyahlee, with support from the Mayor's office, the City Council's Citizens Engagement Committee, and Youth A.C.T. The mural will be painted on a wall at the Malden Center T belonging to the MBTA, and we are very appreciative of and grateful to the MBTA for their support of this project in granting permission to use their wall to add color to the community.
