The City of Malden and the Malden Cultural Council have partnered with The Art Connection and the MBTA to design and paint a mural in the center of town.
"Strong Past... Proud Future", Malden's first mural, was dedicated on July 10, 2011. This project focused on working with youth in the city who developed the design and painted the mural on an MBTA overpass on Route 60. Our core group of participating teens included: Manny, Katya, Corrine, Audrey, Evanah, Sherley, and Angela with additional help from: Cameron, Derwin, Commie, Chris, Anthony, Johnny, and Thupten. Thanks for helping make your community a brighter place!

Many thanks also to all those who joined us for our Community Painting Day May 22nd 2011. Over 65 Malden residents came out to pick up a brush and help make their mark on Malden's first public community mural.

A Community Input Event was held on October 15, 2009 to invite the greater community to help us brainstorm themes and ideas for the project. Suggested themes included those involving Malden's history, diversity, youth, and nature. Read more about this event from the Malden Observer.

This project is facilitated by artists Tova Speter and Anyahlee, with support from the Mayor's office, the City Council's Citizens Engagement Committee, and Youth A.C.T. The mural will be painted on a wall at the Malden Center T belonging to the MBTA, and we are very appreciative of and grateful to the MBTA for their support of this project in granting permission to use their wall to add color to the community.
